Bogota International Art Fair returns with 300 artists after three years

Bogota, Oct 26 (EFE).- The Bogota International Art Fairwas inaugurated Wednesday after three years in which it had to resort to alternative formats due to Covid-19 and with more than 300 artists and 51 galleries from 15 cities in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Spain.

“After three years we return to face-to-face sessions in the great hall of Corferias. There is a lot of new content, but I think that deep down this brings together a reflection of what has happened in the last three years and is a message of the resilience of the sector of the arts,” said Maria Paz Gaviria, platform manager of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce.

The 16th edition of the traditional fair, which will open its doors to the public from Thursday to Sunday, brings new features this year in the configuration of its spaces, as well as a group of curators who reaffirm it as one of the most important cultural showcases in the plastic arts of Colombia, according to Gaviria.

“The return to this space crystallizes that possibility of having national and international galleries, of once again having the possibility of curating around the galleries and the Latin American context. It is also an opportunity for the young promises of Colombian art to join us here,” she said.

Among the curators of this edition are the Venezuelan Gabriela Rangel, an independent writer and researcher who has been, among other positions, artistic director of the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires and of Visual Arts and Chief Curator of the Americas Society of New York.

Colombia’s Inti Guerrero also will also be there, the co-curator of the 24th Sydney Biennale and tutor of the Curatorial Studies program at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts-KASK, in Ghent.

Also participating in this edition of the fair is Frenchman Simon Castets, director of Strategic Initiatives at LUMA Arles and executive president of the Swiss Institute in New York. EFE
