The mugshot and arrest footage of a 10-year-old boy accused of threatening to shoot up his school were released by Florida authorities on Monday, with the local sheriff calling the move “just desserts” for a suspected criminal.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno told W Radio in Colombia, “I did a campaign: fake threat, real consequence.” “While I understand the boy is ten years old, his brain isn’t fully developed, and he’s a juvenile, I have to tell you that when a ten-year-old pulls the trigger, the consequences are the same regardless of age.”
Daniel Isaac Marquez, a fifth-grader at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, was arrested Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office, for the alleged text-message threat, which was forwarded to deputies by a tipster on May 28.
Daniel was seen being led away in blue Crocs, a camouflage hooded zip-up sweatshirt, and matching shorts, with his hands cuffed behind his back.
Marceno told W Radio that Daniel told a friend in a text message that he had “wads of cash” and that they should “get ready” for him to carry out the mass shooting.
According to an arrest report, the boy allegedly wrote in the text, which included a Google image of money, “I scammed my friend.”
