121 children killed in Ukraine, 167 wounded amid war

Lviv, Ukraine, Mar 23 (EFE).- Some 121 children have been killed and 167 others wounded in Ukraine since the Russian invasion of the country began almost a month ago, the Ukrinform news agency reported Wednesday.

“The largest number of children were killed or injured in the Kyiv region – 61, the Kharkiv region – 41, the Donetsk region – 40, the Chernihiv region – 32, the Mykolaiv region – 24, the (Ukrainian) capital – 16, the Zhytomyr region – 15, the Kherson region – 15, and the Sumy region – 14,” Ukrinform said in a statement, citing juvenile prosecutors.

Russian strikes have also damaged 548 educational institutions, 72 of them were completely destroyed, added the statement, noting that Donetsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv are among the worst impacted regions.

In addition, more than 40 institutions for children, including medical centers, art schools, sports facilities and libraries, were hit by Russian missiles.

Ukraine’s attorney general office said these figures were preliminary since it was not possible to inspect all areas amid hostilities.EFE
