18-Year-Old Charged After Car Crashes Into Boys and Girls Club, Covington Police Say

COVINGTON, TN (FOX 13 News) — An 18-year-old was charged after she crashed into a community club while “cutting donuts,” police said.
Witnesses in the area told the Covington Police Department that a 2000 Mercury Marquis ran into the Boys and Girls Club building, causing heavy damage.
Investigation showed that the driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman, was “cutting donuts” in the parking lot and then when she tried to do another one near the building, she lost control and hit the building.
Both a 17-year-old passenger who was injured during the crash and a 11-year-old who was not were both identified to be in the car when the crash happened.
Video did show that there were a couple of children in the club’s parking lot, basketball area, and around the building when the car hit and damaged the building, police said.
Officers told the Boys and Girls Club staff, and they confirmed that they were closed during the time of crash.
The woman had no driver’s license and no insurance for the car, police said. The heavy damage on the building was estimated to be $15,000.
The 18-year-old was arrested and sent to the Tipton County Jail. She was charged with Reckless Driving, No Driver’s license, Failure to provide financial responsibility, 2 Counts of Reckless Endangerment, and Vandalism.
