Alcaraz takes revenge on Marozsan, reaches Indian Wells QF

Sports Desk, US, Mar 12 (EFE).- World number two and reigning Indian Wells champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain defeated Hungary’s 58th-ranked Fábián Marozsán 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday, securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the season’s first Masters 1000 event.

It took 75 minutes for the determined and voracious Alcaraz to get his revenge after being eliminated by the Hungarian in the third round of the Rome Masters 1000 last year.

His next opponent will be the winner of the match between German Alexander Zverev (No. 6), who defeated him in the quarter-finals of the last Australian Open, and Australian Álex de Miñaur (No. 10).

It was Alcaraz’s 50th Masters 1000 victory (50-16, four titles). Only Rafa Nadal had reached a better record before his 21st birthday (82-17, nine titles).

Alcaraz, fresh from a fantastic third-round performance against Felix Auger-Aliassime (No 31), was keen to make his mark as soon as possible.

Despite Marozsán saving a breakpoint in the first game, Alcaraz remained patient, ultimately breaking Marozsán’s serve at 4-3.

Alcaraz maintained his momentum, closing out the set with another break thanks to a down-the-line backhand.

Throughout the match, Alcaraz displayed his trademark patience and skill, employing his famous drop shot and unleashing powerful forehands.

The final point came at 3-2 and 0-40. Once again, Marozsán saved two break points, but then he lost his serve. This time to a parallel forehand from Alcaraz (4-2).

Marozsán’s only trouble came at 15-40. But Alcaraz’s hand did not shake, the Spaniard held his serve with tremendous strength and then unleashed a parallel forehand at almost 170 kilometers per hour.

Alcaraz’s composure and strength ensured he held his serve throughout the match, securing his place in the quarter-finals at Indian Wells. EFE
