2 injured in stabbing attack in Jerusalem amid simmering tensions

(Update 1: Adds stabbing attack)

Jerusalem, Sep 13 (EFE).- Two people were injured in a stabbing attack near Jerusalem’s main bus station on Monday, an incident Israeli police described as a terror attack.

The assailant, who Israeli media said was Palestinian, is receiving medical care after being “neutralized” by Israeli border police fire, while the victims, aged between 20 and 30 years, have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Both victims, conscious and in stable condition, are being treated for torso wounds, a spokesperson for the Shaare Tzedek hospital said.

The attack took place just outside one of the country’s main bus stations, one of the busiest areas in west Jerusalem.

It comes amid simmering tensions that began last week as six Palestinian prisoners tunneled out an Israeli high-security prison. Four of them have been tracked down.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it had conducted airstrikes in the Gaza Strip for the third consecutive day in response to rockets fired at Israel overnight from the Hamas-controlled territory. EFE
