The event is a state-level contest that leads to the national Miss America competition.
23-year-old Brianna Mason won the 2019 competition, held in Knoxville. She became the first ever African American woman to win the contest. It was her fourth time competing in the event, the Knoxville News-Sentinel reported. Among her winnings were $15,000 in scholarships.
She took part in the 2020 Miss America competition in December, won by Camille Schrier of Virginia.
