28 arrested for rape of minor teen girl in India

New Delhi, Sep 24 (EFE).- The police in India said Friday that it has arrested 28 of the 33 people allegedly involved in raping a 15-year-old girl for months in western India.

“28 out of 33 identified accused arrested so far, of which two persons are minors. Victim’s condition is stable,” Sonali Dhole, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Thane district, in the state of Maharashtra, told the local agency ANI.

The victim, who approached the police on Wednesday, was allegedly raped by more than 30 men repeatedly and for a period of nine months, the local Times of India newspaper reported.

The incidents began in January when the young woman’s partner raped her and recorded the incident and then threatened to make the video public if she did not have sex with her friends, the victim reported.

According to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 28,046 rapes were reported in the Asian country in 2020, an average of 77 per day. EFE
