3 Mid-South Locations Added to National Register of Historic Places

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC/LPL) — Tres atracciones del Medio Sur se encuentran entre los cinco sitios de Tennessee añadidos al Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos.

Oaklawn Garden en Germantown, Sterick North Garage y Hotel en Memphis, y Bozo’s Hot Pit y Bar-B-Que en Mason se agregaron al registro.

“Estas adiciones al Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos son un testimonio del patrimonio diverso de Tennessee”, dijo Patrick McIntyre, Director Ejecutivo y Oficial de Conservación Histórica del Estado. “Las propiedades históricas son parte de nuestro pasado único y merecen ser reconocidas en esta prestigiosa lista”.

Los tres lugares tienen décadas de historia en el Medio Sur.

Oaklawn Garden comenzó como un vivero comercial en 1923. La ciudad de Germantown posee y opera la ubicación como un parque.

Sterick North Garage and Hotel se construyó en 1963, con un hotel de tres pisos sobre un garaje de siete pisos.

Bozo’s se construyó en 1950, pero comenzó como un negocio en 1923 cuando Thomas Jefferson “Bozo” Williams abrió el restaurante al otro lado de la calle.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) —Three Mid-South locations are among five Tennessee sites added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Oaklawn Garden in Germantown, Sterick North Garage and Hotel in Memphis, and Bozo’s Hot Pit and Bar-B-Que in Mason were all added to the register.

“These additions to the National Register of Historic Places are a testament to Tennessee’s diverse heritage,” said Executive Director and State Historic Preservation Officer Patrick McIntyre. “The historic properties are part of our unique past and are worthy of being recognized on this prestigious list.”

All three locations have decades of history in the Mid-South.

Oaklawn Garden started as a commercial nursery in 1923. The city of Germantown owns and operates the location as a park.

Sterick North Garage and Hotel was constructed in 1963, holding a three-story hotel over the top of a seven-story garage.

Bozo’s was constructed in 1950, but began as a business in 1923 when Thomas Jefferson “Bozo” Williams opened the restaurant across the street.
