Police search for ‘big cat’ on the loose in Berlin

Berlin, Jul 20 (EFE).- Police in Berlin were searching Thursday for a “big cat” that was reportedly on the loose in the German capital.

Brandenburg police received an emergency call at around midnight on Wednesday after a member of the public reported a sighting of “a free roaming-wild animal” in the south of the city.

After examining mobile footage submitted to police, officers assessed the animal as a lioness, the statement said, describing the situation as “credible”.

More than 30 patrol cars and helicopters were searching for the “big cat” as part of “extensive measures to protect the population”, the statement said, adding that veterinarians and hunters were providing expert support to the police operation.

It was unclear where the animal had escaped from, as no animal safari parks, zoos or protection facilities were missing a big cat.

Police urged the population to remain indoors while the search continues. EFE
