3 held for shooting at Rotterdam summer carnival

Brussels, Jul 30 (EFE).- Three people have been arrested after a shooting the previous night during the celebration of a summer carnival in Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, police said Sunday.

The three people were detained shortly after the incident near the scene of the shooting, which occurred around 8.45pm at a central avenue in Rotterdam.

Those detained were the shooter, the victim and a third person believed to be connected to the incident.

“Officers saw a suspect shoot a victim. They then fired several shots at the suspect. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to hospital and arrested,” the Dutch police said in a statement.

Moreover, a woman was injured in a fall while walking away from the incident.

So far, the reason behind the shooting remains unknown.

The events took place on Saturday night in the city center, when the summer carnival parade had ended.

Earlier at around 7.30pm another shooting had occurred in the city, in which no casualties were reported and the suspect managed to evade the police.

The police said the two incidents did not appear to be connected, but they did not rule out its possibility in the investigation. EFE
