The personalized keychain to keep your Covid pass within reach

Valencia, Spain, Dec 1 (EFE).- The owner of a small business in Valencia has come up with a Covid-19 health certificate keychain, saving customers the irritating task of printing it off and giving them peace of mind should they leave their cellphones at home.

Authorities in the eastern Spanish region are to make the pass compulsory to access public spaces like bars and restaurants at the end of this week.

“The idea came about because I had the need for it myself,” Juanfran Peñaranda tells Efe from his small store Goatxa, which sells all sorts of personalized goods, from t-shirts, to hats to puzzles.

When Peñaranda saw the news that the Covid-19 pass was coming into effect, as is the case in a number of Spanish regions, his first thought was that he would need to keep it on him at all times, like a set of keys.

He then downloaded his vaccination certificate, and printed the QR code onto a keychain made out of PVC.

The device had a great reception from his friends, who asked for keychains of their own.

They pointed out it would serve not only those without a printer at home, but perhaps older people who do not use smartphones.

“I always think small until a friend opens my eyes,” he said of the moment he thought about commercializing the gadget.

Since Monday, the Covid pass keychains have been available in his shop for a price of 9 euros ($10), and orders have come in from across Spain. EFE
