Nicola Sturgeon’s husband arrested in party funds probe

London, Apr 5 (EFE).- Police in Scotland on Wednesday arrested the husband of former first minister Nicola Sturgeon over an investigation into the funding and financing of the Scottish National Party.

Police Scotland said they had detained a 58-year-old man in the investigation, with local media, including the BBC, naming him as Peter Murrell.

“The man is in custody and is being questioned by Police Scotland detectives,” the statement added.

Police said agents were carrying out searches at a “number of addresses” as part of the investigation.

Murrell was the chief executive of the SNP between 2000-23.

Sturgeon officially stepped down as Scotland’s first minister and leader of the SNP in late March.

She was Scotland’s longest serving premier and a major force in UK politics. EFE
