Jon Rahm wins US Open, reclaims world no1 golfer spot

Madrid, Jun 21 (EFE).- Jon Rahm, who birdied the two final holes of the US Open for a tight victory, retook the number one spot in the Official World Golf Ranking updated on Monday, having sat on top of world rankings twice before, once in July 2020 after the Memorial and later in August for his 13th place in the PGA Tour.

After 2020 champion Bryson DeChambeau dramatically failed to defend the title, Rahm managed to overtake Louis Oosthuizen by only one stroke in the last two holes, making him the first Spaniard to win the American tournament on Sunday.

Oosthuizen reached the two final holes with a birdie and a par to close out with 71, which earned him second place for a second consecutive year, as well as his sixth silver since he won the British Open in St Andrews in 2010.

Rahm collected his sixth PGA Tour title, roughly two weeks after a Covid-19 positive test result forced him to forfeit his six-stroke lead and walk out of the Memorial Tournament 54 holes into the competition.
