54-year old Kazuyoshi Miura joins 4th division Japanese club

Tokyo, Jan 11 (EFE).- Kazuyoshi Miura, 54, has joined Suzuka Point Getters for the 2022 season, the Japanese fourth-tier club announced on Tuesday.

The player, best known as King Kazu, will play under his older brother Yasutoshi, 56.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to play for this team and I will do my best to contribute to the club’s victory,” Kazuyoshi said in a statement.

On 10 March 2021, Kazuyoshi beat his own record as the oldest player to compete in the Japanese first division at 54 years and 12 days in Yokohama’s 2-0 defeat to Urawa Reds.

However, he fell short of Zico’s record as the oldest scorer in J1 set by the Brazilian with Kashima Antlers in 1994 at the age of 41 years, 3 months and 12 days.

Miura, who turns 55 on February 26, started his playing career in 1986 in Brazil, where he made his debut at Santos.EFE
