6 Palestinians wounded as Israeli forces raid house in West Bank

Jerusalem, Jun 8 (EFE).- At least six Palestinians were wounded in fresh clashes with Israeli forces who raided the West Bank on Thursday to demolish the house of a Palestinian prisoner, accused of twin bombings in Jerusalem in November 2022.

Islam Faroukh, 26, was arrested by Israeli forces in December 2022 on the charges of twin explosions that killed two people and injured 20 others in Jerusalem.

“The Israel Defense Forces and the Special Forces demolished the house of the terrorist Islam Faroukh (…) in the city of Ramallah,” Israeli forces said in a statement on Thursday.

“During the operation, violent disturbances developed in several locations, during which suspects threw stones, Molotov cocktails and explosives at the forces,” the statement said, adding that the Israeli forces “responded with measures to disperse demonstrations and live fire.”

The official Palestinian Wafa news agency reported Israeli forces brought more than a hundred vehicles for the operation to demolish the house of Faroukh in Ramallah.

During the operation that lasted for several hours, the Israeli forces engaged in violent clashes with local Palestinian young men, it added.

Six Palestinians were injured – three by live bullets and another three by rubber bullets and tear gas of the Israeli forces – but were reportedly in a stable condition, the local health ministry said.

Among the injured persons was photojournalist Moumen Sumrein, who was covering the Israeli operation and was hit in the head by a rubber bullet, Wafa reported.

Israel forces have been constantly demolishing homes of alleged Palestinian attackers in occupied areas now for years in an attempt to deter Palestinians from launching further attacks against Israel.

The current Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to expedite its house demolishing policy in Palestinian areas.

2023 has been the deadliest year in the Palestine-Israel conflict since the Second Intifada from 2000 to 2005.

So far this year, 122 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank and Israel, most of them militants in violent clashes with Israeli troops, as well as multiple civilians, including 20 minors.

Another 34 Palestinians died in Gaza bringing the death toll among Palestinians to 156 so far this year.

On the Israeli side, 20 people have died in attacks by the Palestinians, most of them settlers, including three minors. EFE
