6 soldiers die in Pakistan military chopper crash

Islamabad, Sep 26 (EFE).- An army helicopter crash has killed six soldiers in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, the military said on Monday, the second such incident in the insurgency-hit region in less than two months.

The helicopter crashed late Sunday night, killing all six onboard, including two officers, an army statement said.

The army’s media wing said the helicopter met with the accident during a flying mission near Khost, Harnai Balochistan.

The army gave no reason for the crash.

An air accident in August had killed a senior commander and five others when their aircraft crashed on a mountain in Lasbela district in Balochistan during a flood relief operation.

All six onboard died. According to the army, the helicopter wreckage was found a day later.

The army said the accident happened because of bad weather.

However, an amalgam of Baloch insurgent groups, Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS), claimed responsibility for downing the helicopter.

The statement said BRAS fighters targeted a low-flying helicopter of the Pakistan military with anti-aircraft guns.

The BRAS claim could not be verified independently. EFE
