Putting College Within Reach For Local Students

MEMPHIS, TN (Localmemphis.com/LPL) — The RedZone está ayudando a los estudiantes locales a llegar a la zona del gol, por así decirlo. Estos estudiantes pasaron sus vacaciones de primavera en una gira universitaria. Estos estudiantes del área de Orange Mound todavía están en éxtasis después de vislumbrar sus posibilidades futuras.

Santia Brown y Andrew Terry fueron dos de los 24 estudiantes de Melrose que zigzaguearon en todo el estado visitando en UT Martin, Austin Peay State University, TSU y MTSU.

“Me gustó la gira porque tuvimos que experimentar la vida universitaria y la transición de los estudiantes a la clase, y me gustó cuando tuvimos que caminar por el campus y conocer diferentes partes del edificio”, dijo Brown.

“Eran universidades que nos podían aceptar y nos gusta que no fueran universidades a las que vas y quizás no te acepten. Fueron las universidades lo que fue razonable para nosotros “, dijo Terry.

Los estudiantes dicen que el RedZone Ministries College Tour fue una especie de milagro, dándoles una visión exterior de otras partes del estado y no solo del área de Orange Mound.

“Nuestro objetivo más importante es brindar acceso, oportunidad y exposición, por lo que específicamente, elegimos estas cuatro escuelas porque obtenerlas es posible para nuestros estudiantes”, dijo Whitney Williams, Ministerios de RedZone.

“Es el corazón de lo que queremos hacer como organización: ver lo que Redzone Ministries ya está haciendo y ver cómo su impacto en la comunidad de Orange Mound ayuda a los jóvenes allí. Lo que queremos hacer es venir, acercarnos a lo que ya se está haciendo y apoyar de todas las formas posibles. MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) — The RedZone is helping local students reach the end zone, so to speak. These students spent their spring break on college tour.

These Orange Mound students are still on cloud 9 after a glimpse of their future possibilities.

Santia Brown and Andrew Terry were two of 24 Melrose students that zig-zagged across the state stopping at UT Martin, Austin Peay State University, TSU, and MTSU.

“I liked the touring because we had to experience the college life and how students transition to class, and I liked when we had to walk around campus and learn different parts of the building,” said Brown.

“They were colleges that we could get accepted to and like it wasn’t colleges you go to and maybe you won’t get accepted. It was colleges that was reasonable for us,” said Terry.

The students say the RedZone Ministries College Tour was sort of a miracle, giving them an outside view of other parts of the state and not just Orange Mound.

“Our biggest goal is to provide access and opportunity and exposure, so we specifically, we chose these four schools because getting in them is attainable for our students,” said RedZone Ministries Whitney Williams.

“It’s at the heart of what we want to do as an organization — is to see what Redzone Ministries is already doing and see how their making an impact in the Orange Mound community in helping youth there. What we want to do is come, come alongside what they are doing and support them in any and every way we possibly can. And, it was our blessing to be able to sponsor this college tour,” said Brandon Artiles with My Town Miracles.
