Actor Jay Johnston arrested on Capitol riot charges

Los Angeles, US, Jun 8 (EFE).- Actor Jay Johnston, known for his roles on “Mr. Show With Bob and David” and “Bob’s Burgers,” was arrested on Wednesday in California on charges of participating in an assault on the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

According to local media reports, Johnston is charged with felony obstruction of officers during civil disorder, and other misdemeanor offenses.

According to an FBI officer’s affidavit, the actor used a stolen US Capitol Police shield during the assault on the Capitol building by a mob of supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Public videos, CCTV footage and police body-worn camera footage show that Johnston pushed against police and aided other rioters near an entrance to the US Capitol known as “the tunnel,” the affidavit says.

After his involvement in the assault came to light, Johnston was removed from the long-running animated sitcom “Bob’s Burgers,” in which he voiced the character, Jimmy Pesto.

Following the attack, the only acting job he has secured was in the Lucas Astrom movie “Wing Dad.”

On Jan. 6, 2021, some 10,000 people gathered outside the Capitol and nearly 800 stormed the building to try to prevent the Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory’s against Donald Trump in the presidential elections. EFE
