Paris builds special courtroom for 2015 terror attacks hearings

Paris, Sep 2 (EFE).- A special courtroom has been built in Paris to host next week’s hearings for the trial over the deadly November 13, 2015 terror attacks in Paris and Saint-Denis, which killed 131 people and injured more than 400 others.

The courtroom, toured by media on Thursday, was built specifically for the legal process, which begins on September 8 and is expected to conclude by the end of May 2022.

A total of 20 defendants will stand trial as of next Wednesday for allegedly taking part in the attacks, a series of events that included three suicide bombings outside Stade de France in Saint-Denis, a mass shooting at the Bataclan theater, and indiscriminate shootings on crowded cafes and restaurants in Paris.

The trial is set to take place within a space inside one of the halls of Paris’ Palais de Justice.

The assigned room, of which construction was concluded this summer, has a capacity of 550 attendees and a space secured with bulletproof glass that can accommodate 12 defendants.

Images from the trial will not be allowed for public viewing according to the French regulations, but hearings will be videotaped for documentation purposes.

In addition, up to eight cartoonists are expected to be allowed inside the courtroom to document the hearings.

Imagery from the hearings will be transmitted privately to 11 adjacent rooms, dedicated to the victims and their relatives, should they wish to attend. EFE
