Tornado watch issued across Mid-South

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — This Thursday Morning, we are tracking a strong line of showers and storms along a cold front that will push into the Mid-South and will continue to track east and northeast across the area today.

Winds are quite breezy across the region, coming out of the south around 15 to 25 mph this morning and gusting as high as 40 plus mile per hour at times. Therefore, the entire Mid-South is under a Wind Advisory through 7 pm tonight.

Our south winds, and warm temperatures continue to provide enough fuel for a few stronger storms to produce gusty winds and the possibility of a quick spin up tornado through midday today.

Right now, our tornado threat looks on the lower end of the scale. The higher threats today look to be gusty winds, heavy rain and small hail.

Nevertheless, there is enough dynamics in place this morning in our atmosphere, that is why the Storm Prediction Center has issued a TORNADO WATCH until noon today for the entire Mid-South.

As this line pushes east of the region, the severe threat will diminish across the area, so once the line is through the region, we will see much better weather to end the day.

Latest timing shows the line impacting Eastern Arkansas between now and 8 am.

Then will push closer to the Tennessee River Valley between 8 am and noon.

Just remember to have a plan in place.
