Tottenham vs. Chelsea to be first elite net zero carbon game

London, Sep 6 (EFE).- The London derby between Harry Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur and league contenders Chelsea later this month will be the first net zero carbon game to be held at an elite level of football, promoters of the project dubbed GameZero said Monday.

Broadcaster Sky partnered up with Tottenham Hotspur to make the initiative possible on September 19.

Sky and Tottenham would work to reduce matchday emissions from travel, energy use and food to a minimum while offsetting the remainder with environmentally-friendly projects.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: “We are delighted to be the chosen partner of Sky on this ground-breaking initiative that will demonstrate the role our game can play in addressing the urgent issue of climate change.”

The initiative is backed by COP26, the United Nations climate change conference taking place in the Scottish city of Glasgow this year, as well as the United Kingdom’s government and the Premier League.

Spurs were designated the greenest club in the Premier League last year by a European Union study. EFE
