Lviv, Ukraine, Dec 23 (EFE).- Air raid sirens were triggered in Kyiv and 12 other regions of Ukraine, a top advisor said.
“The pre-Christmas sound of sirens in Kyiv… With cruise missiles,” Mykhailo Podolyak, who advises president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, wrote on Twitter.
Local media reported sirens were heard in the Ukrainian capital and 12 regions across the country, however, no explosions were confirmed.
In the southern region of Kherson, Russian forces shelled residential areas early in the morning, killing two people, Yaroslav Yanushevych, head of the city council, said on Telegram.
“The houses of Kherson residents near the city center were destroyed. People fled their homes in horror, realizing that the enemy was targeting civilians,” wrote Yanushevych.
On November 9, Russia’s military announced its retreat from the regional capital of Kherson to the left bank of the Dnieper river after an eight-month-long occupation of the city.
The latest Russian shelling came hours after president Zelenskyy returned to Kyiv following a short visit to the United States and Poland, in what was his first foreign trip since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.EFE
