Angelina Jolie makes surprise visit to Ukraine

Lviv, Ukraine, Apr 30 (EFE).- Angelina Jolie made an unannounced visit Saturday to this western Ukrainian city, talking to people who have suffered during the Russian invasion and the volunteers working to ease their plight.

Ukraine’s UNIAN news agency published a video showing the 46-year-old US actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian at a coffee shop in Lviv.

The casually dressed Jolie is seen chatting with people and signing an autograph.

Though Jolie is a United Nations special envoy for refugees, Joung-ah Ghedini-Williams, head of global communications for the UN Refugee Agency, said that she traveled to Ukraine in her personal capacity.

The head of the regional administration in Lviv, Maksym Kozytskyy, said that Jolie made stops at several medical facilities and at a boarding school now accommodating displaced people.

“In one of the medical institutions, she has visited children who suffered from a missile strike by the Russian military on the Kramatorsk train station. She was very moved by their stories,” Kozytskyy said.

Jolie also expressed gratitude to volunteers assisting displaced people at Lviv’s main rail station, the Ukrainian official said.

“I know how trauma affects children, I know just having somebody show how much they matter, how much their voices matter, I know how healing that is for them,” Jolie told the volunteers. EFE
