As a new year approaches, so does a season of change. For many, this means focusing on self-improvement and health. When the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, consider these 3 resolutions to bring in the new year.

Good memories are created over good meals. Food is a friend in times of tragedy or heartbreak, and a snack can be a great companion when you’re bored. But, while food often highlights moments in our lives, food itself should not be a source of happiness, sadness or guilt. In 2018, work toward building a healthy relationship with food. Acknowledge it as a source of nourishment and respect it for the ways it can impact your body. Take time to learn more about what you eat and how much of it you should have. You may find that being armed with knowledge is motivation to live healthier.

Next, work on listening to your body. Try acknowledging hunger and fullness cues, learning more about your sleep habits, or scheduling an appointment when something’s not quite right. Becoming more aware of your body’s needs can help you take charge of your health by focusing on prevention.

Finally, set one realistic goal and work at it for a specific amount of time. You may notice that having an end date in sight may help you stay motivated longer. Remember to adjust the goal periodically to better fit your needs. If you find yourself off track, keep in mind that the most important thing is to keep going. Time will pass whether you work toward your goals or not. So, choose to make the best of the time you have!
