Tsunami advisory issued as 7.3 magnitude quake hits off Japan’s Fukushima

Tokyo, Mar 16 (EFE).- Japanese authorities issued a tsunami advisory on Wednesday after a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Fukushima and Miyagi in the country’s north.

The temblor struck just before midnight local time at a depth of 60 kilometers, Japan’s meteorological agency said.

An advisory for a tsunami of up to one meter was issued for the northeastern coastal regions of Fukushima and Miyagi.

Japan’s east coast lies along the so-called Ring of Fire and was the scene of the deadly 2011 earthquake and tsunami that killed nearly 20,000 people and triggered a nuclear disaster in Fukushima. EFE
