Argentina marks 61st birthday of late Maradona

Buenos Aires, Oct 30 (EFE).- Argentina on Saturday marked the 61st birthday of the soccer legend Diego Maradona, who died in November last year.

This weekend’s league games are to be paused in the 10th minute so that the supporters can applaud the World Cup winner while an iconic photo of him will be displayed on giant screens.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) distributed commemorative armbands and T-shirts for the players to wear when going out onto the field.

Other off-field events are scheduled for Saturday, including the inauguration of a 13-meter monument in Buenos Aires province.

The autopsy on the body of Maradona, who died on 25 November, revealed that he died as a result of “acute lung edema related to exacerbated chronic heart failure”.

Seven people are being investigated for the alleged premeditated murder of Maradona due to deficient medical treatment. EFE
