Midtown Neighborhood On Edge After String of Car Break-Ins

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/FOX 13) — North Willett Street está siendo blanco de los ladrones. Han saqueado al menos cinco autos en los últimos días. El método es prácticamente el mismo cada vez. Una ventana frontal en el vehículo está rota para el acceso.

En algunos casos, se tomaron cosas como gafas de sol, dinero en efectivo y un talonario de cheques. En otros casos, no se tomó nada.

Nancy y John Stinchfield están muy preocupados. Su automóvil fue saqueado hace un par de días mientras dormían. Estaba estacionado justo afuera de la ventana de su habitación.

“Aparentemente estaban tratando de romper la ventana del lado del conductor con un destornillador”, dice Nancy Stinchfield.

El ladrón rompió la ventana y la puerta pero no pudo entrar. John Stinchfield dice que fue un golpe de suerte, especialmente porque la alarma de su auto nunca se activó.

“Te hace querer estar más alerta y tal vez poner más seguridad … cámaras y demás”, dice John Stinchfield.

Él dice que esta es la segunda vez en menos de un año que algo así ha sucedido. Es por eso que la pareja no deja nada valioso dentro de su automóvil.

La policía todavía está buscando a los sospechosos en esta cadena de allanamientos.

“Hay una crisis severa de opiáceos en Estados Unidos y me hace pensar si algunas de estas personas pueden tener un problema de drogas y están desesperadas por algún tipo de dinero de alguna forma”, dice John Stinchfield.

Él y su esposa esperan que los sospechosos sean atrapados pronto.

“Esperamos que no continúe”, dice.

Él planea hablar con la policía sobre cómo colocar una cámara SkyCop en el vecindario.

MEMPHIS, TN (Fox 13) — North Willett Street is being targeted by thieves. At least five cars have been broken into within the last couple days. The method is pretty much the same each time. A front window on the vehicle is smashed for access.

In some cases, things like sunglasses, cash, and a checkbook were taken. In other cases, nothing was taken.

Nancy and John Stinchfield are very concerned. Their car was nearly broken into a couple days ago while they slept. It was parked right outside their bedroom window.

“They apparently were trying to break through the side window, the driver’s side window with a screwdriver,” Nancy Stinchfield says.

The thief damaged the window and the door but couldn’t get in. John Stinchfield says it was a lucky break, especially since their car alarm never went off.

“It does make you want to be more vigilant and maybe put in more security… cameras and such,” John Stinchfield says.

He says this is the second time in less than a year that something like this has happened. That’s why the couple doesn’t leave anything valuable inside their car.

Police are still searching for the suspects in this string of break-ins.

“There’s a severe opioid crisis in America and it makes me wonder if some of these people may have a drug problem and are desperate for some kind of money some how,” John Stinchfield says.

He and his wife hope the suspects are caught soon.

“We hope it doesn’t continue,” he says.

He plans on talking to police about getting a SkyCop camera put in the neighborhood.
