Spain football body equals economic conditions for men’s, women’s teams
Madrid, Jun 14 (EFE).- The Spanish football federation (RFEF) on Tuesday announced a deal to make the economic conditions of the national men’s and women’s teams equal.
The pact was unveiled at an event held in Madrid attended by the federation chief, Luis Rubiales, and the members of the women’s national team ahead of the upcoming Uefa Women’s Euro 2022 tournament.
The RFEF said that the bonuses received by players on the women’s national team would be adjusted to match the men’s team while their share in image rights would also be “regularized and improved.”
The agreement will be in place for five years, until 2027, it added.
Rubiales added: “What we have sealed is an agreement that will last five years, which involves the next two Euros and the next two World Cups ahead of us. Also the Olympic Games if we qualify.”
Regarding bonuses, he said: “It is an agreement very similar to that of the men but with a correction factor that we believe is more than fair.
“We must promote women’s sport and we want these distances to be shortened little by little, that more and more money and more prizes come to women’s football,” he added.
The female players’ share of the image rights is to be raised starting this year and is expected to reach 80% by 2027, according to Rubiales.
The women’s team captain Irene Paredes described it as a “history day.”
“The negotiation process has been long and as players, it was complicated, but reaching an agreement of such magnitude reinforces the idea and the commitment of the RFEF with the women’s section and especially with the first team players,” she said. EFE
