Arrest Made After Man Struck in The Head with Golf Club in Whitehaven

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC/WREG) — A man was arrested for allegedly hitting a man in the head with a golf club in Whitehaven.
According to the affidavit, Wesley Caldwell, 22, is charged with aggravated assault.
Memphis Police Department says Caldwell was playing golf at the Links at Whitehaven on Dec. 3, when a ball was hit over to another hole.
A witness told police they went to retrieve the ball, but Caldwell picked it up first and threw it in another direction, according to police.
The witness says the suspect seemed to be upset but before the victim could speak, Caldwell struck him in the head with his golf club, according to MPD.
The affidavit states that the victim attempted to walk away but was disoriented.
He was taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain, says MPD.
The man accused appeared before a judge Tuesday, and the victim’s family is not pleased with the results of his arrest.
Family and friends of Marc Coleman, who was assaulted with a golf club, are outraged after learning the person Memphis Police say is responsible is out on bond.
22-year-old Wesley Caldwell is charged in the attack and stood before a judge Tuesday morning. The victim’s family and friends who were also in court say he is currently on life support.
The Memphis NAACP released a statement Tuesday calling for Caldwell’s charges to be upgraded from aggravated assault to attempted murder.
They also stated that Coleman has served the community by working with the organization on voting issues and other issues in the community, serving on numerous boards, and working for several elected and appointed officials.
Caldwell is scheduled for another court appearance on Jan. 17.
