MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — The spirit of Christmas can already be felt in the Mid-South, as we see everything from houses decorated with lights and other Christmas ornaments to great sales in stores. For this reason, La Prensa Latina brings you a list of the best events that will be taking place in the different iconic area landmarks like Graceland, the Memphis Zoo, Shelby Farms Park, the Museum of Science and History (MoSH), and the Memphis Botanical Garden, as well as in the surrounding cities – Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville and Germantown –, where there will be parades, festivals, and much more. These events are the following:

* CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND: November 16, 2023 – January 8, 2024

Christmas was one of Elvis’s favorite times of the year, so the Graceland Mansion and gardens have been beautifully decorated for the occasion with lights and beautiful ornaments. The extensive Christmas display at Graceland includes hundreds of blue lights lining the driveway, a life-size Nativity scene, Santa and his sleigh, and much more, all initially displayed by Elvis and the Presley family.

Elvis Presley’s Graceland has also organized a series of events to celebrate the holidays this year. These events include Christmas tours, live concerts with Terry Mike Jeffrey (Dec. 1) and Dean Z (Dec. 2) at the Graceland Soundstage, the grand opening of the world’s largest collection of Department 56 villages (located on the Graceland campus, the Department 56 Gallery tells the collectible company’s story through themed displays and vignettes featuring its beloved holiday hand-crafted lighted villages), and more.

The Christmas at Graceland festivities will close with Elvis’ Birthday Celebration on January 5-8 with concerts, conversations, final Christmas tours and more. Highlights include Viva Elvis Birthday Pops Concert with Terry Mike Jeffrey and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra on January 6, A Night at American Sound on January 7, plus Elvis’ Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on January 8. * TRUIST ZOO LIGHTS: November 24, 2023 – January 6, 2024

Notably, the “Truist Zoo Lights,” has become an annual tradition for families in Memphis. Take the whole family to the Memphis Zoo at night to greet Santa Claus, skate on ice and enjoy a wide variety of beautiful ornaments and Christmas lights. You will also be able to see some of the animals.

The Memphis Zoo will be closed on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day (December 24 and 25).

* THE ENCHANTED FOREST AT MoSH: November 18, 2023 – December 31, 2023

You cannot miss “The Enchanted Forest Festival” at the Museum of Science & History (MoSH), formerly known as the Pink Palace Museum. Being a Memphis Christmas tradition, the Enchanted Forest is filled with charming and animated characters, as well as model trains, snowmen, Christmas figures, gingerbread villas, and dozens of beautifully decorated trees.

The history of “The Enchanted Forest Festival” dates back to 1963, when it debuted at the Goldsmith’s department store in Downtown Memphis. The exhibit was inspired by Walt Disney’s “It’s a Small World” exhibit at the New York World’s Fair. In the 1990s, it merged with Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Christmas Tree Festival.

* STARRY NIGHTS: November 24, 2023 – December 31, 2023

Being the largest holiday light show and festival in the city, “Starry Nights” has become a Christmas tradition for many families in the Mid-South. The extensive display of illuminated figures, along with a wide variety of entertainment available for both adults and children, makes the occasion suitable for everyone, without exception, to feel the magic of the Christmas spirit.

* HOLIDAY WONDERS AT THE GARDEN: November 24, 2023 – December 30, 2023 (Select nights only)

This year’s Christmas celebration at the Memphis Botanic Garden is bigger and brighter than ever, with more lights, more activities for the whole family and different attractions. There will also be other special events that include “Santa Sunday” (Nov. 24; Dec. 3, Dec. 10, and Dec. 17), “Paw-liday Wonders” (for families with pets; Dec. 1 and Dec. 28), “Snow Queens” (Dec. 7 and Dec. 18), “Holi-Date Night” (adults only – 21+; December 14), “Ugly Sweater Night” (Dec. 15), and much more.

Hours: 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Weekday Tickets: Advance tickets are $12 for MBG Members (limit 6 per membership), $15 for Non-Members, and $17 for all same day tickets. Children under two are free.

* CHRISTMAS PARADES:

– Collierville Christmas Parade: December 1, 2023, from 7 PM to 8 PM. The 46th Annual Collierville Christmas Parade will march north down Byhalia Road starting at White Road/Market Boulevard all the way to Frank Road.

– City of Bartlett Christmas Parade: December 2, 2023, from 4 PM to 7 PM. This year’s theme for the parade is “All I Want for Christmas Is.” The parade will go from Kirby Whitten Rd. to Yale Rd.

– 2023 Memphis Holiday Parade: December 9, 2023, at 2 PM, on Beale Street.

– Germantown Christmas Parade and Festival: December 9, 2023, 2 PM to 5 PM. The parade begins at the corner of Kimbrough Road and Farmington Boulevard, proceeds west on Farmington Boulevard to Exeter Road, turns north on Exeter Road and ends at Germantown Athletic Club.

– Arlington Christmas Parade (“Toy Story Christmas in Arlington!”): December 16, 2023, at 11 AM, on Airline Road. The parade route will begin at Arlington High School and conclude at Arlington Automotive.

 

* CAZATEATRO’S CHRISTMAS FIESTA! – December 9, 2023

This Christmas, Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group and Opera Memphis will present a Christmas Fiesta. Come to enjoy the Christmas traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean, learn about our parrandas, posadas, piñatas, and more. Enjoy traditional Christmas music in Spanish, Latin food, and make a poinsettia or a small piñata.

* CHRISTMAS AT GRACELAND: 16 de noviembre del 2023 – 8 de enero del 2024

La Navidad era una de las épocas favoritas del año de Elvis, por lo que la Mansión de Graceland y sus jardines han sido hermosamente decorados para la ocasión. La extensa exhibición navideña en Graceland incluye cientos de luces azules que bordean el camino de la entrada a la mansión, un nacimiento de tamaño real, la figura de Santa Claus con su trineo y mucho más –todos estos adornos fueron originalmente exhibidos por Elvis y su familia.

Graceland también ha organizado una serie de eventos para celebrar estas fiestas decembrinas. Dichos eventos incluyen guías turísticas, conciertos en vivo con Terry Mike Jeffrey (1 de diciembre) y Dean Z (2 de diciembre) en el Graceland Soundstage, la gran inauguración de la colección más grande del mundo de villas del Departamento 56 (ubicada en el campus de Graceland, la Galería del Departamento 56 cuenta la historia de la compañía a través de exhibiciones temáticas y viñetas que muestran villas navideñas iluminadas y hechas a mano) y mucho más.

El “Truist Zoo Lights” se ha convertido en una tradición anual para las familias de Memphis. Lleva a toda la familia al Zoológico de Memphis de noche para saludar a Santa Claus, patinar sobre hielo y apreciar su amplia variedad de ornamentos y luces de Navidad. También podrás ver a algunos de los animales.

El Zoológico de Memphis estará cerrado en Nochebuena y en Navidad (24 y 25 de diciembre).

* THE ENCHANTED FOREST AT MoSH: 18 de noviembre del 2023 – 31 de diciembre del 2023

No te puedes perder el “Festival del Bosque Encantado” en el Museo de Ciencias e Historia (The Museum of Science & History/MoSH), conocido anteriormente como el Pink Palace Museum. Siendo una tradición navideña de Memphis, el “Bosque Encantado” está lleno de encantadores personajes animados, maquetas de trenes, muñecos de nieve, figuras navideñas, villas de jengibre y decenas de árboles que están hermosamente decorados.

La historia del “Festival del Bosque Encantado” (“The Enchanted Forest”) se remonta a 1963, cuando debutó en los grandes almacenes de Goldsmith’s, en el centro de Memphis. La exhibición se inspiró en la atracción de “It’s a Small World”, de Walt Disney, en la Feria Mundial de Nueva York. En la década de 1990, se fusionó con el “Festival de Árboles de Navidad del Hospital Infantil Le Bonheur”.
