Sports Desk, Jan 14 (efe-epa).- The Premier League on Thursday announced the postponement of the upcoming Aston Villa vs. Everton match as a “significant” number of players and staff remain in isolation due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the Birmingham-based club.
“Aston Villa’s home match against Everton, scheduled to be played on Sunday 17 January at 12:00 GMT, has been postponed by the Premier League Board,” a statement from the league board read.
Villa had been due to play Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, a game that was also rescheduled due to the Covid-19 outbreak at Villa Park. Spurs instead played against Fulham (1-1).
Another delayed game, against Newcastle United, has since been rescheduled to take place on 23 January.
In a statement, Aston Villa said: “The Club would like to express its immense gratitude to the medical experts who have helped us to get a significant Covid-19 outbreak under control, as well as the Premier League board and our fellow clubs for their understanding during this period.”
It added: “We expect that members of the first team squad and staff who are healthy and safe to return to training will do so on Sunday when the isolation protocols will have been observed.”
