At least 12 killed, dozens injured in Croatia bus accident

Zagreb, Aug 6 (EFE).- At least 12 people were killed and dozens injured Saturday in a bus accident in Croatia, police reported.

The bus was carrying Polish religious pilgrims when the vehicle slid off the road near Varazdin, some 40 kilometers northeast of Zagreb, at 5:40 am on Saturday morning.

Emergency services, firefighters and police were immediately deployed to the site. All remaining passengers were taken to hospitals in Varazdin and Zagreb.

The motive for the accident remains unknown and an investigation was underway, authorities said.

The passengers were traveling to Medjugorje, a Roman Catholic pilgrimage site in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatian interior minister, Davor Bozinovic, told reporters. EFE
