Palestinian killed in Israeli West Bank raid
Jerusalem, Jul 26 (EFE).- A Palestinian was killed Wednesday during clashes triggered by an Israeli military raid in the northern West Bank, bringing the number of Palestinian casualties to four in the last 24 hours, according to Palestinian officials.
“A young man died of his wounds as the occupation forces stormed the city of Nablus,” the Palestinian National Authority Health Ministry said in a statement.
He was identified as 23-year-old Mohammed Abd al-Hakim Nada. He was shot in the chest, the statement added.
According to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, Israeli troops surrounded a house in the Al Ain Palestinian refugee camp, west of Nablus, triggering clashes.
EFE contacted the Israeli army for a statement on the incident but they did not provide any information.
Israel’s military conducted widespread raids early on Wednesday across the West Bank arresting 32 Palestinian “suspects”, according to an Israeli army spokesman.
Israeli forces exchanged gunfire with groups of Palestinians and confiscated two M-16 rifles, as well as money and drugs.
According to Wafa, the number of detainees from the raids conducted across the West Bank stands at 39, including three minors.
On Tuesday, three other Palestinians were shot dead by the Israeli army in the city of Nablus, a stronghold of Palestinian militias, in what Palestinian media described as an ambush.
Israeli security forces said they opened fire at Palestinian militants who had shot at them from a car.
The Islamist movement Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip and is considered a terrorist group by Israel and the United States, said that the three dead militiamen belonged to the Al Qassam Brigades.
This year has been the deadliest in the West Bank since the end of the Second Intifada, a Palestinian uprising between 2000 and 2005. EFE
