Djokovic: I’m ready to perform at by best

Tokyo, Jul 22 (EFE).- Novak Djokovic on Thursday said he was ready to perform at his best ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics having already bagged three Grand Slams this year.

The Serbian tennis star gave a press conference in Tokyo a day before the Games opening ceremony is due to get underway.

“I feel great physically and mentally,” he said. “I feel ready to perform at my best. I’ve had arguably the best Grand Slam season in my sport so far — winning three out of three Grand Slams. I could not have better preparation or better lead-up to an Olympic Games than I’ve had this year.”

He noted that it would be strange to not come up against Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal at the Olympics, both of whom pulled out with injury.

The three tennis players share a record of 20 major titles each.

His last Olympic medal for Team Serbia was the bronze he won at Beijing 2008 but he was confident of bagging another this year having already triumphed at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, meaning he is still on track for the coveted Golden Slam. EFE
