Lukaku dropped from Chelsea squad after interview upset

Sports Desk, Jan 2 (EFE).- Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel left Romelu Lukaku out of the squad ahead of the team’s crucial game against Liverpool Sunday in the wake of comments the Belgian striker made in a recent interview.

The German coach said Lukaku’s remarks in an interview with Sky Italia in December were “not helpful” and had brought “noise that we just don’t need.”

In the broad interview, Lukaku said he was “not happy” with the situation at Chelsea, adding that he would have remained at Inter Milan if the club had offered him a new contract.

The 28-year-old said he had to be patient while Tuchel found a way to work the striker into his system at Chelsea.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool are scrambling to shorten the gap with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Sunday evening’s game at Stamford Bridge could have a major influence on the title race.EFE
