At least 3 dead, dozens injured in train collision

Domazlice, Czech Republic, Aug 4 (EFE).- At least three people have died and 38 others were injured when two trains collided in Domazlice, a Czech town near the German border, on Wednesday.

Five of the injured were in a serious condition, national news agency CTK said.

Two of the dead were the train drivers, while the third fatality was a female passenger of the oncoming train.

The accident occurred at 8am near the Bavarian border, when a train from the German city of Munich to Prague collided with a local train on the Plzen-Domazlice line, Czech rail operators said.

In a Tweet, Czech transport minister said he was cancelling his planned activities for the day and was traveling to the scene.

“The situation is serious,” he said.

Authorities have shut the rail line and opened an inquiry into the causes of the accident.

Several ambulances and four helicopters were on the scene to treat the injured and transfer them to hospitals.

Rescue teams from Germany were also taking part in the rescue efforts. EFE
