Mykolaiv state administration building shelling toll rises to 16

Mykolaiv, Ukraine, Mar 31 (EFE).- The death toll from Russia’s shelling of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration building has risen to at least 16, according to the State Emergency Service (SES) on Thursday.

“As of 07:00 on March 31, 16 people died (rescuers unblocked 15 bodies from under the rubble, 1 person died in intensive care). Currently, there are 47 rescuers and 9 pieces of equipment (at work),” the SES said on Facebook.

The emergency services said Wednesday afternoon that they had extracted 14 bodies from the rubble, while one person died in hospital.

As a result of the attack early on Tuesday morning, the center of the nine-story building collapsed, leaving a gaping hole in its structure.

The attack also caused injuries to some 40 people who are being treated in hospitals, according to the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, Hanna Zamaziyeva.

Mykolaiv is located between the Black Sea cities of Odesa and Kherson, which is occupied by Russian forces. EFE
