At least 53 people killed in Russian shelling of Ukraine’s Chernihiv

Odesa, Ukraine, Mar 17 (EFE).- At least 53 people have been killed in the Russian bombing Chernihiv city in northern Ukraine in the last 24 hours, regional governor Viacheslav Chaus said on Facebook, according to state-owned Ukrinform agency on Thursday.

Chaus said the enemy was subjecting the city to systemic artillery and airstrikes, destroying Chernihiv’s civilian infrastructure.

He added that in the last 24 hours, 53 bodies of people killed by the Russians had been taken to the morgue.

Despite the continuous shelling, teams of electricians and other utility workers are constantly at work, trying to restore the supply of power, gas and water in the city, he further said.

Chaus advised all those sheltered in places without access to water or food to seek assistance from Ukrainian military centers.

The regional administrative head also recalled that on Wednesday at least 13 people died in the city when the Russians attacked people queuing up at a supermarket to buy bread. EFE
