Celebrities opt for classic glamor to honor Big Apple at Met Gala

New York City, May 2 (EFE).- From Kim Kardashian to Blake Lively, celebrities of the moment opted Monday for classic glamor at a Met Gala that honored the Gilded Age of New York City.

There was no shortage of sequined, metallic, voluminous and transparent fabrics, especially in the case of the Kardashian sisters, who all attended along with their mother.

Kim Kardashian, accompanied by partner Pete Davidson, wowed by emerging in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic sheer “Happy Birthday” dress covered in crystals.

The nude dress was worn by Monroe during her performance for President John F. Kennedy Jr on his 45th birthday in 1962.

The exclusive event, which raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute was held on the first Monday in May, as has been tradition since the 1990s until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation in 2020 and its postponement to September last year.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who personally selects the guests, was one of the first to appear on the gallery’s stairs, dressed in a long sparky, colored dress with a feathered cape and a tiara.

Shortly after, co-chairs and married actors Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds arrived and did not disappoint. Lively stunned with a blush/bronze Versace gown representing the Statue of Liberty, folded around the waist and let down into a reversible tumbling turquoise train.

For about four hours there was a succession of actors, musicians and models wearing their best, and perhaps that is why the presence of the richest man in the world, businessman Elon Musk, stood out.

The CEO of Tesla was accompanied by his mother, the former model and dietitian Maye Musk, who joked her son told her he did not want to do interviews, and assured that he loves fashion.

New York Mayor Eric Adams used the evening for a call to “end gun violence” as written on the back of his tux, while Alicia Keys sent a love letter to the Big Apple with its skyline illustrated in crystals on the bottom of her Ralph Lauren cape over a silver jeweled strapless gown.

Spanish singer Rosalía wore a flouncy white Givenchy dress with sunglasses, rapper Cardi B wore a gold Versace dress made of chains, and model Gigi Hadid covered her maroon latex ensemble with a giant puffer jacket. EFE
