At least 9, including 5 children, killed in central Russia school shooting

Moscow, Sep 26 (EFE).- At least nine people, including five minors, were killed in a shooting at a school in Izhevsk, a central Russian city situated at the bottom of the Ural mountains, authorities said on Monday.

The Russian Investigative Committee said in an online statement that two guards, two teachers and five students were killed in the incident as per the preliminary information available.

Earlier, the interior ministry had reported that at least 7 people were killed and 20 wounded in the shooting.

The governor of the Udmurtia province – where the city is located – Alexander Brechalov, said in a video statement on Telegram that the tragedy had taken place at the school number 88 in Izhevsk.

He said that an unidentified gunman had opened fire in the school.

Brechalov, who immediately reached the site, added that the shooter had killed himself, with the interior ministry also confirming this as the attacker’s body had been discovered.

Russian media outlets reported that around 1,000 students were enrolled in Izhevesk’s school no. 88, situated meters away from the municipal office of the city. EFE
