Bayern in last eight after Kane double seals comeback win

Sports Desk, Mar 5 (EFE).- Harry Kane scored two chancy goals either side of Thomas Muller’s header as Bayern Munich overturned their 0-1 deficit in the first leg to beat Lazio 3-0 in the return match and qualify for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Under pressure owing to their poor domestic form, Bayern had to respond to the defeat in Rome, and they obliged, with recalled Leroy Sane creating an early chance that set the tone for a dominant first half.

The hosts, however, had to wait until the 39th minute for the breakthrough, which came in the form of a header from Kane, who reacted to a tentative shot from Raphael Guerreiro that was apparently heading wide.

The goal gave Bayern some relief, but they still needed the second goal to think about the quarterfinals, and it came from a corner kick in added time of the first half when Muller scored with a header from Mathjis de Light’s cross.

Bayern went into the break with the result they needed, but there was still the challenge of maintaining it.

Lazio were forced to give spaces after Muller’s goal, and Bayern took the advantage by scoring their third in 66 minutes, as Kane finished typically after Ivan Provedel pushed Sane’s cross into his path.

“It’s a perfect night for us. It was a big game. We were 1-0 down from the first leg. This was obviously a big moment in our season,” Kane said after the match.

“It was a top performance. The first goal was just about getting into the box. We’ve been talking about it all week.

“For the second goal, I took my time finishing with my left foot – it was nice to see how it worked.”

The quarter-final matches will take place on Apr. 9, 10, and Apr. 16, 17. EFE
