Atlético Madrid’s João Félix tests positive for Covid-19

Madrid, Feb 3 (efe-epa).- Atlético de Madrid’s Portuguese forward João Félix has tested positive for Covid-19 and will isolate from the rest of the team, the club announced Wednesday.

The current LaLiga leaders said in a statement: “Our player João Félix took a PCR test which has returned a positive result for Covid-19. The forward remains isolated at his home in strict compliance with the recommendations of LaLiga’s health authorities and protocol.”

Félix, 21, is the third Atléti player to test positive for Covid-19 in the space of a week. The club announced on Saturday that Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco and Spanish defender Mario Hermoso had both tested positive.

The absences could complicate head coach Diego Simeone’s team selection for the club’s upcoming league match against Celta Vigo on Monday. EFE-EPA
