Miami’s iconic Pride Parade returns to Ocean Drive

Miami, US, Apr 10 (EFE).- Miami Beach’s iconic Ocean Drive was once again decorated on Sunday with the colors of the rainbow for the 2022 edition of the Pride Parade, which had more participation than in the last two years.

Sunday’s parade in the promenade in the South Beach neighborhood featured more than 50 floats and thousands of people who gathered to celebrate the nine-day Miami Beach Pride Week.

“Miami Beach Pride brings together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, their friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of the unique spirit and culture of the LGBTQ+ community,” according to the organizers.

The festivities include a two-day free live music festival at Lummus Park headlined by British singer and songwriter Raye.

“My first U.S show today in Miami,” tweeted the artist, who rose to fame with the song “By Your Side” in 2016.

Among the participants in Sunday’s parade were politicians such as Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

According to the website oceandrive.com, the “Miami Beach Pride Festival attracts a huge crowd, making it one of the largest festival activations ever held in South Florida. Annually, almost 150,000 people come.”

Another major event of this year’s edition was the “Make love, not war” outdoor party featuring artists Mauro Mozart and Alex Lo, it added.

Miami Beach Pride Week was established by former Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower in 2008 as an initiative of the Miami Beach Gay Business Development Council. EFE
