South Korean man arrested for hacking home cameras at 400,000 households

Seoul, Dec 20 (EFE).- The South Korean police reported Tuesday the arrest of a man in his 30s for allegedly hacking into domestic surveillance cameras in more than 400,000 homes and trying to sell the footage.

The man, identified only by his surname Lee, is accused of hacking surveillance camera systems that is now common in the homes of the newly built residential complexes of South Korea, the National Police Agency (NPA) told official Yonhap agency.

Lee, a cyber-security expert, hacked into built-in home cameras in 638 apartment complexes between August and November last year.

The investigation was initiated after content recorded from inside several apartments appeared on the dark web.

The NPA has seized files containing intimate or sexually explicit material.

Lee has claimed he published the content to try and demonstrate that these home security systems needed to be improved.

However, the police claims to have proof that Lee tried to seel these filed. EFE
