Lewandowski sets another record as Bayern rout Bochum 7-0

Sports Desk, Sep 18 (EFE).- Robert Lewandowski’s goal for Bayern Munich in Saturday’s 7-0 thrashing of Bochum made the Polish international the first Bundesliga player to score in 13 straight home games.

Europe’s most proficient striker for two seasons running also extended his scoring streak with Bayern in all competitions to 19 matches.

The win lifted the eight-time defending Bundesliga champions to first place on 13 points from five games. Wolfsburg, who have 12 points, play their fifth match on Sunday.

Bochum, back in the top-flight for the first time since 2010, are second-from-last with 3 points.

The visitors began bravely and generated the first chance, a shot by Gerrit Holtmann that forced a save from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the 12th minute, five minutes before Leroy Sane opened the scoring for the hosts with a free kick from 25 yards.

Sane supplied an assist in the 27th minute on Joshua Kimmich’s goal.

Serge Gnabry made it 3-0 in the 32nd and the margin increased to 4-0 in the 43rd minute when Bochum’s Vasilios Lampropoulos inadvertently put the ball in his own net under pressure from Lewandowski.

Sane and Gnabry combined to get the ball to Lewandowski in the 61st minute and the Pole, who had a brace in Bayern’s 3-0 Champions League triumph over Barcelona earlier this week, scored from point-blank range.

The 6-0 materialized three minutes later with a second goal from Kimmich and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting added a seventh with 11 minutes left. EFE rz/dr
