Pope: I am always ready to go to China

Papal plane, Sep 13 (EFE).- Pope Francis said Tuesday that he is always willing to go to China, but “has no news” of a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Nur-Sultan in the next few days.

He told journalists, traveling with him on the papal plane bound for Kazakhstan for a three-day visit – where he will participate in the seventh Congress of Leaders of the World and Traditional Religions – when asked about a possible meeting with Xi, also on an official visit to the country.

“I have no news of that, but I am always willing to travel to China,” said Francis, who has repeatedly expressed his desire to visit this country with which the Vatican ended relations in 1951.

Although in recent years there have been some approaches such as the agreement between the Vatican and the Chinese government for the appointment of bishops signed in 2018, renewed every two years

It was an agreement by which the pope and Beijing agreed to appoint the bishops and put an end to the years of persecution and clandestine Catholic churches.

Despite his knee problems, which prevent him from walking for a long time and have forced him to use a wheelchair, he greeted the 75 journalists traveling with him one by one. EFE
