Deceased Russian opposition leader Navalny’s funeral to take place on Mar. 1

Moscow, Feb 28 (EFE).- The funeral of the late Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalni, will take place on Mar. 1 in Moscow, his political team announced Wednesday, after denouncing for two days difficulties in finding a space for appropriate arrangements.

The information was confirmed on the social network X by Navalny’s spokesperson, Kira Yarmish, who announced that both the mass for the deceased and the burial of the politician will take place on Friday.

The funeral chapel will be held in a cathedral in Moscow’s southeastern Maryino district, and the burial in the necropolis of Borisovo in the same area.

Supporters of the opposition leader will be able to pay their respects from 2pm Moscow time, Yarmish said, calling on everyone to arrive early at the cathedral.

Another close aide to Navalny, Ivan Zhdanov, revealed on social media platform X that Navalny’s supporters initially planned to organize his funeral on Feb. 29 but there was no undertaker available.

On Monday, Navalny’s supporters revealed that the politician died in prison days before his exchange for Vadim Krasikov, convicted in Germany for the murder of a Georgian citizen.

The Kremlin said Wednesday it had no information about the possible exchange. EFE
