Banksy claims seven murals in Ukraine

Lviv, Ukraine, Nov 15 (EFE).- Banksy has claimed seven murals that have popped up in various locations in Ukraine, including the capital and several bombed-out cities.

Speculation had been mounting that the street art superstar was in Ukraine after the first work, a mural of a gymnast doing a handstand painted on a war-damaged building in the city of Borodyanka, appeared on November 12.

The Brit shared the artwork on his Instagram page.

Since then another six artworks have appeared and specialist publication The Art Newspaper has confirmed they are all by the renowned urban artist.

One mural depicts a judo match between a man, who resembles Russian president Vladimir Putin – a judo black belt – being thrown to the ground by a boy.

Other murals show two children using a metal tank trap as a seesaw, a woman in a dressing gown and curlers wearing a gas mask and holding a fire extinguisher, a bearded man taking a bath, and another which has incorporated an existing graffiti of a penis as a nuclear warhead.

The works are Banksy’s first public murals in over a year.

The British artist has previously painted in other conflict zones and some of his most emblematic pieces, including Flying Balloon Girl and Slingshot, are on the West Bank wall in protest of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.EFE
