UK to offer food, taxi discounts to boost youth vaccination campaign

London, Aug 1 (EFE).- Young people who get the Covid-19 jab in the United Kingdom will be offered discounts on food delivery and taxi hailing apps, government authorities announced on Sunday.

Ride-hailing firms, including Uber, Bolt, Deliveroo and Pizza Pilgrims, will offer the discounts for the younger population as an incentive to boost the vaccination campaign in the 18-29 age group.

The health ministry, which has set up vaccination centers for young people in art galleries and shopping malls, said it would outline the details of the incentives in the coming days, which could include free rides to vaccination centers and reduced prices on food.

Health Secretary Sajid David urged people to “take advantage of the discounts” as he thanked companies for “stepping up” to help in the fight against coronavirus.

Official data from July 30 showed 67 percent of young people from the age of 18-29 had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the UK compared to the some 88 percent of the adult population who has received at least one dose.

Over 72 percent of the adult population, some 38.12 million people, have received the full course of the vaccine. EFE
